Apple started with a computer club called Homebrew Computer Club. The theme of the club was “give help to others”, they would sit in a circle and discuss ideas or rumors, and then talk about data that had been collected to back up that rumor or idea. The apple II computer came up because the only computer that was a “personal” computer that was out was the Altair 8800, and not many would consider it that personal of a computer today. The idea of the apple computer was that people would be able to use it. The apple computer was meant to be built as a computer that fueled people’s hobbies and were fun to use. Today Apple is a very successful company, just recently passing Microsoft. Apple computers started by being sold out of Steve Jobs garage, and originally Steve and Stephen didn’t expect to sell anything except circuit boards to the Homebrew Computer Club. They became a lot more successful than they ever expected to become. Today they sell their computers using commercials with one of their key phrases being  ”I’m a Mac”.

I’m going to be learning the basics of photoshop, by following the tutorials on tv.adobe.com. I decided that I was going to take a color picture, make it black and white and then change only a certain section of it back to color.

Today was the second day we watched Pirates of Silicon Valley. I did not know that Microsoft built their company off of buying a program from someone else. I also didn’t know that apple got going before pcs. It was interesting to watch that both microsoft and apple were just buying a lot of the information that made them successful. Steve Jobs is pretty crazy, having people work 90 hrs or more a week, and his extreme hatred for IBM. He even went as far to internally set him company against each other. It was interesting to see how in denial he was about his daughter.

Yesterday we watched Pirates of Silicon Valley . The movie is about how Steve Jobs and Bill Gates came to be. The main thing that I noticed was how much of a hippie Steve Jobs was and how much of a jerk he was. I really didn’t like his character when we watched him interview a nice little man, that he made feel like crap. He was also really mean to Bill Gates when Bill came to talk to Steve about the computers. Overall though, the first day I really enjoyed the movie. It was interesting to watch, and I never have really have known how Microsoft or Apple got to be so successful.

The significance and benefit of my wiki is that now my family has a way to stay connected. Calling many of my family members costs money because they live out of the country, and visiting them costs a whole lot more. This is significant because now we have a way to communicate without spending money and we can also meet new family members that some us may not know. My wiki has made it possible for my family members to find out a lot more about the other side of my family as well. My mom’s side of the family and my dad’s side of the family don’t talk much outside of  every once in a while when my intermediate family is there to have them see each other. With my wiki they have a chance to see what’s going on with the other side of the family they never talk to.
